There's a *stronger* argument for socialized medicine than housing, education, or really anything I can think of!

‘Socialism’ is a bad word in the US. People think we’ll turn into Soviet russia if anything is ‘socialized.’

One time I was in a political discussion with someone and at some point their rebuttal was “That’s socialism,” as if that ended the matter.

It’s also a major drain on the economy to have sick people. People that are sick can’t produce a product. People that can’t work because of a disability can’t produce a product... from a pure economic perspective it’s just good business to have accessible health care.

That said, from an ethical perspective, human rights should always be the strongest argument, but the world we live in and all....

Many in the U.S. do not trust the government to effectively operate large programs. The implication is that taxes will increase and the money will be wasted.

It is also assumed that any socialized health care will end up like the VA. As a veteran, I can use my employer insurance to see a competent physician same day or wait weeks to see whoever is available at the VA, which is a total dice roll.
