In a democracy, it is wildly inappropriate for politicians to appoint Judges or to set their own constituency boundaries. The international norm is depoliticized independent institutions; judicial appointment commissions and boundary commissions, with credibly neutral experts.
Often this is rubber stamping or choosing from a commission selected shortlist. I don’t know of any advanced democracy where politicians do all the picking.
