Awesome, thanks! I would echo that the public facing service disruption notices are imho not optimized for what AWS learned (or what its customers, who frequently also operate distributed systems, might learn).

This makes sense given the many orgs goals of a public facing postmortem, but may be a rich source of untapped “upside”, a source of knowledge for how to converge on “Well Operated”

Much of my education in massive scale comes from the internal COEs during my time with Amazon and Microsoft. I agree that sharing publicly some of these stories where possible would be a great resource. That scale is rare and uncovers unique concerns you won't find elsewhere.

I agree that we've learned a lot from those, but there's also a lot of in-retrospect superfluous details and incorrect conclusions. The stories are fun, but the distilled wisdom, e.g. https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/some-unique-sessions-at-reinvent-2018/ … I think is generally more useful and actionable.

are you referencing all three talks or primarily"AWS re:Invent 2018: How AWS Minimizes the Blast Radius of Failures" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swQbA4zub20 … ? would be great for someone on the AWS marketing side to collect these sorts of talks on a landing page

In another thread,
@colmmacc mentioned https://anz-resources.awscloud.com/aws-summit-sydney-2019-operate/the-theory-and-practice-practice-practice-of-aws-operations-3 … AWS has... lots and lots of conferences & talks, can be challenging to know where the wisdom is distilled.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

To first order, any talk that Colm has given and any blog post written by Marc Brooker!

Thanks, very much appreciate this guidance. ~50% chance I'll generate a github list of these in the next week, if so will echo back here.
