I also roll my eyes at the idea of observability tools being for better event triage. Humans debugging things to mitigate events should very very much be a final resort.
These takedowns are "I saw these bad post-event practices, and they were using something they called 5-whys, therefore 5-whys is bad".

I guess we can agree to disagree about the term "5Whys", since I think we may be reduced to debating its definition (vs what's actually done post-event).

Ive come to the defense of the 5Y a few times not because it is the best practice but because I believe some uses are misunderstood and there appears to be some ongoing thought(not in this thread) that anyone uses it must be an idiot and it can only damage organizations.

That’s either a hasty generalization or at best a straw man. I’m open minded so would be interested in an exemplar case where the 5-whys was applied responsibly and with intended outcomes.
