(dropping Silvia - not sure she wants her notifications full of cake COE!) What did you use? Butter? Shortening? Oil? How did you apply it? Any idea how much you used?

I love all COEs equally. Even the cake ones. I used butter and idk? Just kind of covered all available surfaces

If your cake pan were a piece of toast, where on the barely tolerable to indulgent scale would you say the amount of butter was?

I think we have root cause! That amount of butter meant that the edges of the cake fried instead of baked, especially around the bottom corner. I told you it wasn't a bad thing!

Another contributing factor: not enough testing of the oven before I had to use it IRL

How could we avoid this happening in the future without sacrificing all of the butter?

Avoiding sacrificing all the butter is exactly all you need to do to avoid it happening again! I'm not sure I've explained well enough... I'll get to work on the five whys.

Yikes, don't say "five whys" on Twitter, Allspaw followers will flock to say how that's not the best approach (and they are not wrong).https://www.kitchensoap.com/2014/11/14/the-infinite-hows-or-the-dangers-of-the-five-whys/ …

"In the best case, it can lead an organization to think they’re improving on something (or preventing future occurrences of events) when they’re not." While I agree that using less butter may not improve future cakes, as that is subjective, it will definitely prevent recurrence!

Should I be preserving the evidence? Though in fairness Abby did a great job already of preserving it.
