Yup. Though I interpret this differently. I don't think it mean speaking out when everyone around you cheers, but speaking out against the cheers.https://twitter.com/frostnhstaterep/status/1140719979265961991 …

Robᵉʳᵗ Graham 😷 added,
I think it means we need to focus on actual debate, citing data and such, not shouting meaningless rhetoric because it makes us feel good. It means understanding a thing, not cherry picking part of it because it makes your outrage feel good.
The major Nazi opponents were the Communists. That didn't mean they were the good guys. Communists (in Soviet Russia) ended up being even more racist and killing more people than the Nazi's did. Holodomor alone killed as many Ukrainians as Hitler Jews https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor
Trumps racism against immigrants is bad, but his detainment of immigrants (excepting his child separation policy) is not much different than Obama's, which apparently everyone was fine with.
It's clear people are not actually outraged against this racism so much as they are outraged at Trump. When this 2014 Obama-era photo was published by the AP, people didn't find it so outrageous.pic.twitter.com/N8TSbUVhqr
Another thing the Nazis were famous for was totalitarian control and violation of freedom of speech. Those opposing Trump universally agree restricting speech is a good thing, especially by Internet platforms.
What I didn't realize then, and do realize now, is that there are factions in the USG doing Whatever The Fuck They Want, and whatever controls we thought we had, don't actually work anymore. Maybe they never did, except for us imagining so.
That is a big thing. ICE's biggest problem is not what Trump is doing but what ICE is doing. They do a lot of good things, too, like stopping child trafficking, but they need drastic reform.
That immigrants suffer bad conditions while detained should be a clear reason to first document then clean it up, regardless of any other policy debate over immigration, and regardless if it were Trump or Obama.
I agree. I was not a fan of "Abolish ICE" when I first saw it. What, we're not going to have guards on the border? That's not going to happen. Possibly we don't have *these* guards, with *this* management chain, on the border. That's a different ask, and a meaningful one.
Border Guards are USBP, and CBP. ICE is the internal immigration police force; investigations and raids on businesses etc.
It is fair to say I'm being a little sloppy there. What I'm saying is that agencies aren't exactly functionaries of the temporary administration installed to provide citizen oversight. They have their own cultures, mores, goals. "The last prez did it too" is often untrue.
What I'm realizing, to my horror, is that slapping together amateur prisons on the cheap, and building Nazi concentration camps, are not necessarily different plans. Fascism as the banality of evil writ large is actually pretty likely.
