SRE culture has tentacles, and seems to bring error budgets, seemingly endless Kubernetes tinkering, and stack over-complication to some places. Plenty of good too, mostly good on balance, but some of it gets to me.

I think this just ends up depending on the org, culture, business, and architecture. I would agree that deliberate downtime for a customer-facing service is worse than for an internal service.

Both of the following may be true * a culture where error budgets are unnecessary is more unhealthy than one where they are necessary * there are many businesses where deploying error budgets is 10x easier than modifying culture to make the unnecessary
