"Error budgets" are the god-damn worst idea I've heard of in recent years. SLAs should be realistic goals about what we can achieve with our current techniques and tools, not permission to fail a certain amount.
Planned downtime is bad there too .. it impacts customers. Advertisers and purchasers. BH's hours have definitely lost sales from me! They can all succeed in spite of it, with great offerings, but it's like racing with weights attached.

In fact modern car racing happens with attached weights (ballast) up to the max weight limit, because it is nearly always preferable to sacrifice acceleration & braking for lower center of gravity. Being a fundamentalist on one property can be a limiting approach to competition.

O.k. well "well actually" me some time when they turn off the cars engine for a few minutes at a time because cooling is hard, or remove the tires for a few minutes to save rubber ;-) Service is the main point of these systems, and trading that off is not to be done lightly IMO.
