Ha. Exactly the same as me. Always feel society has mixed up our respective values. Me: this client is a pain in the arse....pointless endless con- calls. Wife (RN): I had to tell some parents that their child died and then had to prepare the body.

No. I worked my ass off for it. Also recognize that I have to constantly learn to things as part of the job, which is fine because this is something I enjoy. Also I think an argument can be made that software does provide societal value, but the main difference is scale

Software influences the lives of millions of people, everyday. Without it people can't get their medicine, continue business transactions with a credit card ,etc. Yes those people provide value, for the most part their impact it's limited to the lives they are involved with

I work in information security. When I randomly started in 1999, it barely existed. Now there are infinite jobs with crazy wages. So yes, all luck.

I fell into tech by accident, but, given how hard I’ve had to fight to stay in it... Luck has been a factor in specific jobs, but my overall career has been about hard work and sheer pig-headed persistence.
