Frames were poor on different form factors when creating Responsive Design sites. You can use iFrames which are sandboxed in their own context, but it's considered poor security practice to dynamically load content from a different domain

There used to be a nice non-frame version of the POSIX spec, http://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/9699919799.2013edition/nfindex.html … but the last two versions eliminated it :-(
