PSA: Surge protectors and in-outlet GFCIs really work! Last week my house had a surge during a lightning storm. It blanked my meter, tripped half my 200A panel and left me needing a street power crew visit. I've had to replace some bulbs and chargers, but nothing on a protector.
They make it easier to locate the source of a trip, and to reset. Electrical codes require them near water. And they're cheaper to retrofit into older buildings. In UK and Ireland we just put fuses in every plug, and have panel breakers.
