Back in 93/94 I was really missing WordPerfect 5. It really did get rather useless in the windows / wysiwyg version.

I miss Quark Express on the Mac from a similar era. Layout pages quickly with great control over typography. Perhaps I’m being nostalgic though

Frugality is one of my favorite leadership principles precisely because I believe and observe the best software historically was written with severe resource constraints. When you’re flush with resources you get lazy and your useless features bloat.

But when you’re constrained you’re forced to soul search for the most important feature. You’re forced to clarify the core mission of your product, and then you get creative about how to solve that within the resources available.
