There's a wave of countries and states that are getting rid of daylight savings time, and good riddance, but why not also get rid of timezones? Is there really a need for "9AM" to mean "Morning" everywhere?

The number of systems and habits to change to enable that is enormous, would the benefit really outweigh the cost ? I am not convinced.

I guess where I'm coming from is that it's hard to get people to standardize on things -- but slightly easier when it's really helpful -- and that somehow the whole world has standardized on 'noon means the sun's overhead more or less' means it'll be really hard to let that go.
