I've done my taxes! Overall feeling: taxes are way too low on lucky high earners like me. I'm a long way from earning the $10m/year that's been floating around for a new 70% tax band, but I could still afford to contribute much more than the ~35% I'm being asked to.

Over half of the discretionary spending (the spending that would be affected by additional resources) goes to the Military. Consider donating directly to causes that you care about.

I donate a lot, which brings down my taxes too, but that feels like we just get a kind of country that the wealthy can patronize.

Always brave to bring this up. The argument against donating is that the rich don’t know or care about all causes that matter. It ends up with “Is it the government’s job to decide where money is best spent?”. Which outside the US tends to have a fairly agreed upon answer...

My favorite thing about the US constitution is that the government can't get involved in religion, but when people can funnel billions to toxic, poisonous, bigoted, regressive nonsense and get to deduct it from their taxes, that doesn't feel right.
