In France (on their 5th now) it's generally taken a war. I've argued for a 2nd Irish Republic before but given what's happened in the UK and US recently maybe we're actually doing ok.

I have been thinking about this as well. Bookmarking in case someone has some good suggestions! Instant runoff voting and elimination of the electoral college and the senate are currently on my wishlist. :P

Are you thinking a less representative and more direct democracy?

I generally don't think of the US as a democracy, so I'd be happier with a representative democracy ... where for instance the person who gets the most votes wins.
