It's clear the bay needs hundreds of thousands, possibly millions of new homes, together with huge transit investments. Otherwise we get displacement and huge carbon emissions.
Can hi-rise be built affordably in SF? It's not like Manhattan with its granite foundations, and it's very seismically active. It's pretty expensive in LA, and Millennium tower in SF isn't exactly a success.

We don't need high rise! Just wood frame construction citywide to 5 stories

London and Paris have five to seven story urban cores ... they're not known for their livability or affordability ;-) But I guess the populations are much larger there. In both cases they're now going high-rise where they can.
