As an expert on car theft, it's worth pointing out that relying on well-documented and publicised GPS tracking is pretty stupid because it's really easy to disable.

Yep. A friend of a friend had hers vanish without a trace. It's not like there aren't lots of ways to disable the tracking as well. And when your car vanishes without a trace
