The Oscars already have a "popular" bias. If you ask Academy members which films/performances they are voting for Vs what will stand the test of time, they give different answers. In the moment, it's more about "it's due" and fueling the Holywood economy than greatness of art.

I’ll add, I’m no populist. But I see the academy on the same scale I see beer snobs. It’s fucking beer, I’m drunk, I’m having a good time, so it’s good and worthy of people enjoying it and not feeling uncultured because they do.

I can't take the academy seriously. Or awards in general really. Ratings and rankings of art are a parody of purpose.

You’d take a half a million dollar pay raise over recognition for your work? That’s not a judgemental question... I’m just saying that at some point you just want folks to recognize that your work is good vs a monetary value saying that people only like your work due to ignorance
