I've lived in four countries and only one of them has politicians in charge of appointing judges or setting constituency boundaries. Only one has massively privately financed elections. It's disappointing to see demands for delay rather than for independent judicial appointments.
Judicial appointments commissions are common; made up of existing judges, bar association leaders, civil servants and representatives from civic society. They assess and recommend candidates and governments rubber stamp.

I've never understood how its reconciled with Separation of Powers. Perhaps it's that original confusion as to whether the President was a monarch or a Chair of the Board.
