14 years later, I still love Stephenson’s Baroque Cycle completely, madly, and unconditionally. I definitely understand why many don’t, but goddamn, for me, they’re basically perfect. Which explains why I’ve read the whole thing an average of once a year.

I did the first few times, but after a while, CRYPTO just didn’t hang well with the Cycle proper. Maybe I find the historical context more interesting, maybe it’s having so much longer before the traditional Stephenson “welp!” awkward ending...

Well, and not being partially set in the tech world helps. I faaaaar prefer the Shaftoe and Lawrence sections of CRYPTO to the Randy ones.
