Seems inherently more ambiguous; many emojis show up differently on different platforms, for example.

TLDR; Wordpress devs claimed new code being worked on over several months was meant to fix emoji support when it was really fixing a vulnerability. This was to avoid making the vulnerability public until it was in an official release.
