I'm not even counting the keyboard as an issue because Apple at least is willing to swap that in store. They won't swap the memory and storage in store though.

I'm not terribly sure I'd even get more than 8 cores on a Mac Pro if I decide to get one. 12 cores would be nice, but I could make do with 8. And I could cover the slow internal GPU with an eGPU.

It works as a desktop replacement for me, and many others at a large local iOS (and Android) dev shop ;) So it’s something specific to your use case that is making this true for you. Certainly not useable for everyone as a desktop replacement.

I have one at my desk at work. It overheats easily.
-
You need to stop being mean to it! ;) I don’t currently work on large projects and used a previous design MBP last time I did. The fans go on sometime but they’re supposed to
What do you mean by “overheat”? Does it overheat and shut itself off? -
No, the fans crank up and the machine gets slow. And mine is just a 4 core, not a 6 or an 8.
-
Hmmm. So is it slow because it’s working hard or can you tell it’s throttling down the processor? If the latter then that’s definitely not good at all if it happens often… Maybe you have too much thermal paste…
-
I can tell it’s slowing down. I also worry about the health of the machine in those cases. I’ve already had one battery die.

I’m soooo happy with my 21.5” max out 2017 iMac !

-
I just bought a second hand 27" iMac instead of a laptop. It's still in warranty. When warranty expires I'll update the SSD and processor. Can't justify a new Mac whatsoever.
