Kyle (@d20plusmodifier) and I are trying to stay organized by tagging things with #oathboardgame . I've got a bunch of threads already, and I'll be writing some longer form pieces too. The game is still very much in development, but I'm excited to finally be able to share more.

Here's a quick overview. The game is built for 1 to 5 players. It's a pseudo-legacy game where each game alters the course of future games (don't worry, nothing gets destroyed!). The game is very interactive. It takes a few thematic notes from Pax-style games.

The card list is massive but only a small fraction of cards will be used each game. It has an adaptive victory condition and a weird shared tableau system. In general, it's pretty different from any game I've worked on, but the folks that follow my stuff will find a lot to like.

It's also probably the most strategic game I've ever done. (Though I consider Pamir a pretty strategic game so what do I know, haha.)

The solo and two player modes will use a bot that I'm building that is pretty easy to run. So it will be more like Wakhan or the Better Bot Project bots than the solo mode I made for John Company.

Finally, though games build on each other, you don't have to have the same group of players. Player positions don't grow/change between games. So, you could play solo all week and then have a four or five player game with your group that weekend without adjusting anything.

1) super excited (obv) 2) with the pseudo-legacy system, how often do you let the legacy elements live on and how often do you hard reset them in playtesting? Just curious how you balance those efforts, as I’d imagine both need time under the microscope. 3) super exited.

Re: (2). In general I'm letting the games fold into to one another as much as possible right now to see how the core system plays in a bunch of different contexts. Right now though I'm doing core balancing so I've "froze" the world for a few games.

Any minis? Or all card driven?
-
No minis. Cards are central but only about 10-20 cards will ever be in play over the course of a single game. It's possible to play the game without drawing or playing cards.
