After over a year of hard work, we have finally released stable packages and written a preprint for SpikeInterface! We hope to improve the accessibility, reliability, and reproducibility of spike sorting. We also found some unexpected results about modern spikes sorters... 1/5

If you check out the website, you will see that no sorter is ideal for all experimental conditions. As this website grows, we will hopefully be able to prescribe different sorters to different researchers based on the experimental work being done!

Finally, we have a way of comprehensively (and reproducibly) benchmarking spike sorters across different experimental settings. Jeremy Magland and the have made a big step forward with this recent work. I’m happy that I could be a part of this monumental effort!

*REMINDER + PLS RT* Our workshop, From Neuroscience to Artificially Intelligent Systems (NAISys), has an abstract deadline of January 10. This Friday!!! But, it's only 1-page, so easy-peasy: Please send in ideas for how neuroscience can inform AI!

Here's some interview questions I have asked postdoc candidates in the past. I also ask some technical questions specific to the planned project. Might be useful for anyone on the postdoc job hunt...

Ah yes, the same problem we also find for spike sorting! Algorithms are biased, and each one in a different way. This makes consensus methods difficult, you lose all your neurons (<3% remain when testing 6 spike sorters). How to solve this?

This year I wrote a book teaching Deep Learning - it's goal is to be the easiest intro possible In the book, each lesson builds a neural component *from scratch* in Each *from scratch* toy code example is in the Github below.

I've been thinking about the software stack for machine learning. Tools I'd love to see. 1. Pip for pretrained models. 2. Version control for datasets. 3. GPU-friendly CI. Travis CI, Circe CI don't support GPUs. Jenkins is a pain. 4. Fast dataframes. Why is Pandas so slow?
