I've had a lot of people who study "existential risk" come to my workshops on planetary collapse... and am meditating about how a design school might emerge for reducing the prospects of human extinction in the next two centuries.
We have a runaway process of cascading collapses that includes humanity already being well beyond planetary carrying capacity for at least 50 years. How can we regenerate the Earth while establishing community resilience in enough landscapes to avoid prospects for extinction?
This is a core theme for the Design Institute for Regenerating Earth that I am incubating -- to tackle collapse dynamics together in an integrated way with regenerative design practices.

I believe that even if we careen into a hothouse era the generalist species like raccoons, cockroaches, and humans will survive. Monarch Butterflies not so much. Of course there will be fewer of us.
I've just been asked @ConservOptimism whether psychological detachment from the crisis -the #freedom of working wholeheartedly without being wrapped into the outcome- was a luxury for those faced with immediate life threatening consequences.
