    Why are we willing to inject billions in submarines and combat planes for deterrents and hypothetical conflicts, but hesitate to spend on vital equipment we know will be used every year?

    Aerial tankers (VLAT) are unbelievably effective frontline fire suppressors and a waterbombing run was often a key factor in whether a person's homes would survive the end of the day. One of the most important decisions a RFS incident controller makes is where these planes go.

    RE: The Bushfire Royal Commission recommendations. I understand the logic behind this, but it's just not practical to rely on international partners for reinforcements. It used to be the case when our bushfires didn't align with US/Canada, but our fire seasons will overlap soon.
