Is this actually an answer or intuition? Either way it sort of pushes the question back no? What gets whitelisted on GNews?

Nice. Follow up Q. Is there a gradient of “trustworthy” or is it simply a binary, approved or not?

Its a reputational evaluation of the site (it cant just be a YT channel) Examples: ABC runs a YT channel and a News site, so with the "Authoritative Sources" change their YT channel shot up the sub count bc Google News AUTOMATICALLY puts them on top

DramaAlert had a website and YT channel, but Google News really wants the website to be the one evaluated for whitelisting. The channel is just seen as an extention of the site. Which is why indie news sources that ONLY use YT are not likely to be whitelisted Plus $ is a factor

During the 2nd half of 2017 DA had every metric you would need to get in Google Prefered (top 5% in all of News in subs, views, and retention) we even passed TYT Never returned 1 call. Only a few emails until I knew it was a lost cause. They do look at reputation now

basically you have to be a print news org first, in order to even have a chance at being "authoritative"?
