Empathy is like tolerance; it’s a two way street. Stallman is precisely where he is because he has long history of displaying a lack of empathy. I am sympathetic to his state; but I’m honestly more sympathetic to the lives he negatively affected throughout his career.

I don't really buy it, you can't claim to be sympathetic while still blaming him for essentially actions you undertook to destroy his livelihood. I've heard speeches from mass murderers that kind of echo what you're saying. There could have been another way but its too late now.

What actions are you referring to? Calling him out for the public messages he sent? Speaking up against the misogyny? It’s funny how his mean comments were always defended as freedom of speech but when people use free speech to call him out its “destroying his livelihood”.

What part of this required you or the harpy to help him? Just let people do what they want. This is why people hate you.

I don’t understand your response.

You don't like this Stallman guy? Keep your money then. You keep running him down and it makes people hate you. I don't know what he did to you or that harpy and I don't care. P.s. that hate transfers to your listed employer and they should fire you over it.

I still don’t understand what you’re trying to say.

He's saying (poorly) that if you stopped calling out abuse where you saw it and just shut up, Stallman's abuse would have continued unabated (a good thing, to him.) It's like a burglar yelling at police, "if you just shut up and only ate donuts I'd be rich!"

That's what the "keep your money" bit was. He's saying we don't pay Stallman, therefore we must ignore his abuse of others, which *does* harm the industry.

My empathy for Stallman ends where his abuse of others begins, to badly paraphrase a long-ago American judge. I sympathise with him, but that doesn't mean I'll look away from actions that harm others.
