This needs to be emphasized — according to , the number of #LongCovid sick after 12 weeks (formal definition of LC) is increasing across the board. The only numbers they find decreasing are those 'sick less than 12 weeks', which obviously is going to decrease after surges

The only number that declined since July 2022 is the number of people reporting symptoms less than 12 weeks after Covid (makes sense considering number of the UK reported Covid cases went down). The number of people with long Covid over 12 weeks, 1 year, 2 years, INCREASED.

I are healthily, didn’t smoke, rarely drank, worked out like a fiend, and slept well. And yet here I am with #LongCOVID. In an information environment where we don’t know what causes post-viral illness or how to cure it, everyone is at risk.

Song of the Year is not the most popular song or something silly like that. It’s a category that honors the craft of songwriting. Therefore, it is irrelevant if most people had heard the song or not…

the song of the year is a song i’ve never heard
Biomarkers in #LongCovid: A systematic review: "Our study found significant associations between specific biomarkers & Long Covid symptoms. Further investigations are warranted to identify a core set of blood biomarkers that can be used to diagnose."

Many of these “historic first” awards are seen as accomplishments for the winners rather than a reflection of historic failure on the part of the awarding body. Calling someone the “first Black winner” sounds a lot nicer than saying “traditionally we don’t award Black people.”

If you’re not getting your facts/analysis on the Russo-Ukrainian War from Ukrainians or those who are deeply embedded with/knowledgeable of the nation & its people, you’re not getting the real story. There are plenty of English-speaking Ukrainians doing the work on Twitter

Love the appreciation for Kim Petras, but she's not the first trans woman ever to win a Grammy, that's Wendy Carlos! Trans synth queen Carlos won 3 Grammys for "Switched-On-Bach" in 1969. She later went on to compose the soundtracks for The Shining and A Clockwork Orange.

The same industry that’s patting itself on the back tonight for making Kim Petras the first trans woman to win pop duo/group performance at the #Grammys also gave Dave Chappelle another Grammy for his transphobic special “The Closer” so it’s nice to see hypocrisy is alive & well

I’m sorry but whoever made the decision to have James Corden in a JC Penny suit presenting Beyoncé’s record breaking Grammy needs to be sent directly to gitmo.

Those who don't believe the illness is "real" are always going to be asking for a biomarker and using the lack of a biomarker as their evidence that disease doesn't have a physiological basis and therefore, isn't worth studying. We've seen this in #MECFS and #Dysautonomia. 1/🧵

To those intent on psychologising #LongCovid & #MECFS because ‘there is no biomarker’- let me tell you something as a senior Dr. Many diseases don’t have biomarkers & diagnosis is clinical. Take asthma for example. Symptoms vary between patients. 1/n

I'm writing a book about gaslighting. When there's a disagreement abt first-person experience, that's gaslighting. If someone says they have physical pain & you say "no you don't", you're gaslighting. Their knowledge on this is superior & you're discounting their credibility...1/ twitter.com/ZacharyGrinDPT…

If hEDs have called dibs on zebras, can we (POTs) call dibs on manatees (i.e., mermaids)? My thinking: - they be salty - they be mermaids - standing = challenge - they're energy efficient - they like the temperature juust right #POTS Someone will followers retweet?

It’s probably one reason why people are so quick to risk their health. To them they live in a bubble of “I won’t get sick” and “even if I did get sick, it can’t be so bad. A doctor can fix me up”. To them they don’t see the risk. Everything is harmless and minor, until it isn’t…

Hi everyone! I am very excited to announce that I have finally completed a massive #ME/CFS & #LongCOVID treatment survey entitled "TREAT ME"‼️🎉🤩 If enough people respond thoughtfully, I’m confident we may push research in the field forward!🏇 🧵1/3

These psychologizers will get their comeuppance but they will squirm away from accountability by continually moving the goal posts, redefining “settled science” not to mean “many distinct bio abnormalities observed” to “definitive biomarker” which many mainstream diseases lack…

If this many clinicians and researchers in various post-viral conditions associated with Long COVID came after me this emphatically, I would simply never be heard from again. People don’t have enough shame.

I feel we’re on the cusp of being able to understand so much more about post-viral illness than would have been possible before the pandemic. Don’t be caught flat-footed and double down on the idea that these illnesses are predominantly psychosocial. Data is against you already.

The embarrassing & deeply sad story of Casper Schmidt, an AIDS denier who published an article in 1984 saying AIDS was psychosomatic. In 3 decades, there will be articles like these about the individuals saying the same about #LongCovid. History repeats. discovermagazine.com/mind/the-man-w

Shit, y’all. The patriarchy strikes again! Did you know it made me feel real bad and then my lil sad lady brain had no choice but to single-handedly raise my SCD40L & VEGF? I sure hope Natalie Shure’s Magic Psychosocial Solutions can get those suckers back down. #LongCOVID

Know how many established diseases do not have replicated biomarkers? (Hint: a lot). That does not = psychological. To infer shows astonishing ignorance. The incessant focus on discredited psychological research is largely reason for lack of funding that establishes biomarkers.
Quote Tweet
All else aside, insisting that science of Long Covid, ME/CFS & related diagnoses is settled is nonsense. There isn't a single established/replicated biomarker in either. Plenty of inconclusive findings, all over the map. Role of psychosocial factors raised in research frequently twitter.com/r_prior/status…
