Max elevation was ~6 degrees. On VHF and lower UHF it is not uncommon to hear satellites before they rise above the horizon. On 137MHz I hear the NOAA's a couple of degrees below it as the signal propagates on tropo... Beyond the trees is the Pacific Ocean essentially...
