UK judge orders Google to remove old articles about a businessman's past crime from its search results, dealing a blow to the tech company's fight against Europe's "right to be forgotten" law. https://cnnmon.ie/2GXGNcw pic.twitter.com/frCuJvOMWr

Maybe google should just not provide info to the uk. They are an american company, arent they? They should be liable to american laws.

They are subject to US law. The problem with your argument is that google has a UK based operation with a UK business number and tax liability. This means it’s subject to UK law.

Google should try following the law, rather than fighting it.

#Google serves customers in #Europe. Therefore, as they explicitly focus on #EU-residents, of course they are forced to follow EU-law. If they have problems, they are free to stop offering services in Europe. Those who earn money here also need to follow the rules. That's easy.

We need a similar law in the US.

No. The "right to be forgotten" is -in my option- stupid. If a court ruled someone guilty it must be allowed to publish this information. Everything else would be censorship. Only if a court ruled someone innocent, every false claim should be removed!

Well, the latter is nearly impossible to make happen and the former is reasonable but only until the sentence has been completed, at which point, people should be allowed to move on with their lives and not haunted by google searches.

Well, of course everybody is allowed to continue his life after completing the sentence. But however, for other people it might be important to know who he is. Would you leave your kid alone on the streets knowing the neighbor raped a kid? Would you make business with a robber?

Usually, those who have committed sex crimes are required to register as offenders and thus, that information is always publicly available. As for other crimes, yes - I would prefer to give people a chance.

This is precisely why we have the data storage facility in Salt Lake City which has an enormous appetite. With the help of every user of a cell phone giving their permission to their individual service providers to record and store their data, we will keep America safe.
