Why is "assaulting a member of Congress" a different charge than assaulting anyone else?

When does Rand Paul plead guilty to assaulting the sensibilities of the citizenry?
-
Rep Rand did nothing but get attacked. And was seriously injured. And this is your reply, have you no shame at all.

To be fair, Rand Paul has an extremely punchable face.

So it’s more jail time to assault a “member of Congress” than a “normal person”.
-
I wonder what the jail time will be, for assaulting the American people?

He assaulted his neighbor. If it was over landscapinf, Rand Paul's job or position should not be involved.

Is assaulting a member of Congress worse that assaulting anybody else then?
-
Attacking a Congressman because he is a Congressman is right there on the cusp of/is domestic terrorism. Yes it should be taken more seriously.
-
Yeah but the person that attacked him was a white male American, and if we know anything in this country it is that a white man born in this country can NEVER be called a Terrorist.

We should set up a go fund for his neighbor for a job well done

-
Good to know you encourage violence against people fighting for your freedoms
-
I don’t encourage violence against anybody, but how is Rand Paul fighting for my freedoms?
-
He’s the one of the only republicans that will stand against the republicans trying to remove your civil liberties, and he’s spoken out against the drug war and it’s affects on the inner cities and African American communities. You can disagree with him but you should respect him
-
First of all, I agree that he’s one of the few that can be outspoken, but that doesn’t stop him from voting the same way as every other Republican every time. Secondly, I wouldn’t qualify any of that as ‘fighting for my freedoms.’
-
Agree to disagree?
-
Agreed haha. I understand your point.
