Seems a very small price to pay so that the people who shape our children's minds came at least pay their bills.

Oh please, you make it sound like teachers are the pillars of society. A 5% raise is huge, hardly anyone else gets that. Every conceivable holiday, weekends, and summers off- too many benefits already, join the real world

Sort of, but you don't know the cost of living increase percentages beforehand. Teachers didn't get raises for years during the recession but cost of living still went up. There are factors you can't foresee or predict.

A raise for what? They get endless days off , weekends off, summer, winter off, work until 3pm love what they do .. and demand a raise!! They should only get raises if their students have great test scores! Unions make me sick!

They can choose to either take their pay during the school year. Or spread it out over summer as well.

5% is small in relation to the weight of their job.

Teachers deserve a raise and sadly hazard duty pay. Now Trump needs to spend part of the 28 billion dollars for his wall on SCHOOL SUPPLIES so teachers do not have to.

So the kids lose 9 days, parents lose sick time etc. for having to adjust their work schedules so you can get your 5%? Wait until the Summer when you have nothing to do maybe? It's not about the kids though is it?

What's your problem with teachers being given a living wage for the invaluable services they provide to our children?
