I wonder whether or not those kids were given flu shots. Honestly, my first guess is, sadly, yes. I've had one flu shot my entire life and had the worst flu of my entire life that year (I was allergic to eggs as a kid, so this is the one vaccine I didn't get)

The flu shot contains inactive flu viruses aka you can't get the flu from the shot. Chances are, you were infected beforehand (happens all the time) & didn't know it OR you got infected in the 2 week period it takes your body to develop immunity after the shot!

Hope I don't sound too arrogant, but I know that stuff. :) Let's just say I live in a medical family. Public Health studies are junky on this point (ahem, lobbyists), and though I am not a conspiracy theorist, I feel strongly the whole flu shot thing is pharma propaganda.

I feel that! You definitely don't sound arrogant. I agree there are some major issues in the pharma industry. I appreciate your view point on it & how you base it off actual experience rather than random "research" done online. I will do some more looking on my own!

I think big pharma has better things to do than make $$$ off of flu shots. Hey but who knows, maybe they’re all Martin Shkreli’s.

The media is behaving like a desperate opiad dealer with this faux news. Why encourage people to take an ineffective vaccine that may make people sicker!

As a physician, I can tell you this is not true. Giving flu shots to children has been shown to reduce their risk of dying from the flu anywhere from 65-90%, depending on the flu season. So while the vaccine is less effective than we hoped for, there's still reason to get it.

But as a physician you also know the vaccine is not a cure and is for last years flu virus. If it’s a different virus or a mutated one, then the vaccine can be ineffective. Recommending a healthier lifestyle and taking precautions are better.
