family called saying we were "exaggerating" -
Cuba goes through this every year, like all Caribbean island, and all you can come up is some snide comment? and evacuate to where? island?

We received information from friends there, that 700, 000 where evacuated from impact zone. We Caribbeans are used to handle storms.

The outerbands weren't that fast but the eye was at 185mph

The gusts might have been 160 mph, but not the sustained winds (1 min avg) The official forecast gusts of 185 are what you are alluding to.
