Let's replace this statue with a memorial to the slaves then. That way history is still being taught. Win-win!

Not everything in the war was related to slavery, this is a useless act by people with too much time on their hands

The states listed slavery as cause for secession. The war was over that secession. Thus the entire thing was about slavery.

It erases half the story, part that a slave monument can't tell, I think they should put those up too but these need to stay as a reminder

Why not make an informational memorial to those who died that also talks about the general instead of memorializing just him?

Yes, but the ones who killed to try to preserve slavery in perpetuity should not be painted as heroes, if the goal is to learn from history.
