Not everyone has means to evacuate. Less than 50% have more than $400 saved for an emergency. Costs money to evacuate, especially for elderly, disabled, and homeless

wish the city, state, or FEMA would help before a Hurricane hits for the people who cant evacuate before it hits, instead of after it hits. The news interviewed a couple earlier in the week that said they couldn't afford it, which broke my heart, if a Hurricane hit I cant afford
-
I believe the community sent out buses to evacuate those who couldn't leave and have shelters set up. MOST communities have free shelters for those who can't afford to go anywhere else

Another couple was interviewed and the wife has an autoimmune disorder and if someone at the shelter was sick, it could kill the wife. So either way if they stayed or went to a shelter the wife's live was at risk. They were riding it out instead of taking a chance with illness
-
I too suffer from auto immune system, it's considered severe. I use a mask when I am around those who are sick. I get sick but I think this is more excuse than factual. Oh and I take meds that make me immune suppressed and I teach K3-4.

Some people are too poor to evacuate!
-
What does that mean? Too poor to evacuate? They had last minute buses, driving down streets, begging people to evacuate. Are they too poor to get on a bus?? That is nonsense.

I think more people are upset with the people who can leave that are choosing to stay because of selfish reasons. That's the irritating part with me.

Many people can't afford to evacuate, and/or medical/long term facilities where they can't evacuate. Yes, there are those that unfortunately decide to "ride it out." But unless you have raging wind & riding water at your door, you have no reason to be mad.
-
I believe nursing homes & hospitals were evacuated before storm arrived! That’s a lesson officials learned from Katrina & Harvey
-
Not all of them. Willow Creek Nursing & Rehabilitation in Goldsboro, NC is being evacuated now. There are still facilities that haven't evacuated yet.

That was a mistake!
-
@waynecountygov wanted Willow Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center to evacuate earlier because they're in a flood zone. Other facilities should've evacuated at warning too.#HurricaneFlorence#HurricaneFlorence2018#Florencehttps://twitter.com/TimABC11/status/1040743325890953216 …

Thanks I did not realize that all medical facilities weren’t evacuated! I hope everyone stays safe!
-
You're welcome. I don't believe local and state government has the authority to force an evacuation and it's left to the discretion of each facility. Unfortunately many do not act or don't act fast enough. Regulations need to be changed.

Why wouldn’t they evacuate? I understand some do not have the money or whatever to evacuate but isn’t there help for those who can’t get out to get out? Now rescuers are in danger trying to do rescues.
-
Yes. They go door to of drive streets blasting information and helping people get out. I lived in Gulfport, MS project to Katrina and this is common coastal response BEFORE disaster strikes. They offer FREE shelters and lots of help!! NO EXCUSES
-
I figured it was this way. I have never been in the situation. If I ever am, I will evacuate.
