I'm sure there are many unnecessary scripts but this crack down is causing those with legitimate pain issues to be treated like criminals. Meds are being taken away or hard to get without an alternative in sight. Esp. in states where medical marijuana isn't legal. Pure BS.

The opioid crisis is real. Meds are not being taken away from people that have justifiable medical need. Dosage limitations are happening in order to combat over prescribing, overdose, and addiction.
-
The crisis was created by big pharm and doctors. Change is needed but hasn't been thought out. Low income ppl w/o private insurance have a harder time getting needed meds (even low dose) due to changing law. Medical Marijuana should be legal at a minimum. It's a complicated issue
-
I agree doctors and pharmaceutical companies played a big role. I also agree on medical marijuana.

Yet I face a felony drug charge trying to buy hemp oil for a chronic pain problem because I don't want to be on habit indusing drugs!

While this might be true, the “rules” put in place for those who are being properly treated but legit doctors is becoming onerous and expensive. All these “fixes” are not lessening the epidemic. Just punishing the 80% of people needing care

Bull! Chronic pain patients are treated like criminals and have a horrible time getting pain managed because the CDC lied. This article is so off.
-
opioids are not a solution to chronic pain...try pot.
-
Not legal where I live. If it becomes legal I will try it to get off the very few pain meds I am given because I do believe marijuana would be better.

Handing these things out like candy is what started the problem. Where is the accountability?
-
Actually that’s not true. Chronic pain patients are not addicted and don’t use illegal drugs. Deaths/overdoses come from street fentanyl.
-
People overdose all the time from prescribed medication(whether it’s theirs or not) . Also having a prescription does indeed mean it’s legal for the patient, that doesn’t mean they aren’t addicted to the medication itself.
-
Dependence does not equal addiction. Chronic pain does not equal acute pain.

They distribute opioids to easily!
-
Evidently you have no clue how awful chronic pain patients are treated. I don’t believe this story for a second.
-
And you obviously have no idea how many people get addicted too easily. And yes, I do know chronic pain. Every fucking day!
-
I didn’t state anything about how many get addicted. I’m fortunate that I never have. Even with them I barely am able to be function. I know it ever day too. I just don’t believe that Drs aren’t giving them out for no reason.

That is crap.
-
How is it crap? Dr's are far too willing to hand out drugs like this for the smallest things. There has to be a balance between over-prescribing and helping out people who need strong pain killers.
-
It’s nearly impossible to get pain management in the US. Chronic pain patients are barely able to just get enough to take the edge off pain or have their pain management stopped. This story is bull. All scripts are reported to the CDC and the Dr better have a good reason.
