What a horrible loss of history and culture for Brazil and the entire world.

It was bound to happen sooner or later. Recent austerity measures + mismanagement of cultural heritage could only lead to a tragery like this - which is not even the 1st or 2nd museum fire this decade.

WhAt a waste, hope they can still preserv some things there . Hope no life’s been affected as well
-
Nobody was inside the building at the time of the fire, fortunately. However, the historic artifacts are completely lost.

a very sad moment in our History, knowing that if it had been properly maintained, this would be avoided.

This is just so frustating. Museums are supposed to preserve objects and materials of religious, cultural and historical value. Never was it earmarked as place where it will all be ‘destroyed’. A great loss not only to Brazil but to the entire world.

Can we start a gofundmepage to help restore some of the artifacts
-
The fire destroyed everything inside the building.
-
Not *everything*, thankfully. Some items were salvaged, but the damage was done regardless.
-
Some of the stuff will be sold in the black market if we get them
-
It's a possibility - there's even a theory I've seen that said a thief set the place on fire in order to cover up his crime. Right now though, most of the artifacts are in the hands of the firefighters/police departments. Which may lead to the black market regardless.

This makes me so sad for the future generations in Brazil. In times of sorrow we must keep our heads up and find the strength to move forward.
