Lake Superior, like all the other Great Lakes, is truly an inland sea. When things turn bad they do so quickly. It's such a heartbreaking story of a family that clearly loved the outdoors.

And the highest temp it gets is 53 degrees. She is one cold and deadly lake.

And this is what happens with all the modern safety measures. No wonder the voyageurs, in their cargo canoes, stayed pretty close to shore.

Do not play with kids in deep waters if you not a good life saver .. safety first

They were wearing life jackets but her 911 text to her sister didn't go through for 5 hours because there was no cell phone coverage. They can put a satellite on another planet but they can't get a cell phone to work in certain areas. It will never make sense to me.

My son and I almost died on Lake Superior. It’s no lake to fool around on. My deepest, heartfelt condolences.
