Former President Obama on John McCain: "So much of our politics... can seem small and mean and petty — trafficking in bombast and insult — in phony controversies... John called on us to be bigger than that. He called on us to be better than that.” https://cnn.it/2Nviy8Z pic.twitter.com/d8eR5Le6PO

Divided on political opinion... United in the American dream... #Obama and #JohnMCain made America look good in the eyes of the global village.. In death, the humor and soberity is kept alive by @BarackObama

Everything Obama says is a lecture. Do what I say, not what I do. Cannot stand him or McCain. They are the epitome of petty, partisan politics. Politicizing a funeral???

What a contrast to the pettiness and corruptness of current administration. As always, President Obama’s sets the bar high. A true expression of American ideals.

Trump is today a bystander as our nation is given a reminder of the best of what it stands for, and the best of what it can be. The president and the rest of America are about to look in the mirror and see Trump's opposite.

And that is what the press and politicians want you to see. The question is are you falling for it.

This speech, amid all the recent petty anger and bitterness and small-mindedness, is so powerful. I miss him.

His speech was reflective and occasionally humorous. He admonished those who wish to trample the principles of our Nation, foremost being equality. There was no self-aggrandizement, no boasting, no lying over trivialities. This. This is what we need.

Invoking the patriotism, humanity and inherent goodness of McCain, it was like Obama was speaking directly to Trump’s base. Great job Barack!

The #TrumpCult is certainly taking everything positive, said of McCain, as a rebuke of Trump. Even though his name is never mentioned. Pretty telling, I'd say.

The presence of our past leaders coupled with the absence of the current President spoke volumes about what’s been lost in Trump’s America these recent years for today’s ceremony was not only a farewell to McCain but a funeral for the country we once knew.
