You mean the land of people making comments about things they know nothing about? Yup, I know that land.

Is it just me, or is 3D printing just another name for Computer Aided Manufacture (CAM for the 80’s kids)???

CAD-CAM was normally computer control of a milling (subtractive) machine. This printing is like a dot matrix printer with plastic instead of ink, and is capable of more complex structures, but perhaps less strong. CAM is also necessary for 3D. The programs are complex.

I understand that and take what you are saying on board, but when one pictures ‘printing’, one conjures up the image of a printer. Short of being a paper aeroplane, I can only envisage that it’s either CAD/CAM (on a lathe) because a printer is 2D by its very nature??

No its additive so you print a fine sized drop of hot plastic, move the printhead in 3 dimensions, print another dot touching it & so on until you've built up a plastic object or a mold's positive prototype. CAM is subtractive controlled milling away in many final materials.

It’s a most used term, but the truism is “you learn something new everyday”. I’ve learned my thing today, thank you for clarifying that, appreciated!

I am all 4 gun rights, 2nd amendment etc....hell I have a collection myself. But this is just absurd! How in the hell can this possibly be a good idea. Some knucklehead decides he/she is going 2 take out a person or people and makes a weapon by using 3D print...not a good #noway

I agree. I am not “anti-gun” myself. Have a few and enjoy going to the range from time to time. 2nd ammedment clearly states this is in relation to a “well-regulated (i.e well armed, well trained, and well disciplined) militia to protect citizens against an overreaching State.

These are plans to make those illegal firearms. Makes perfect sense they're illegal, there's no legitimate purpose.
