Is it not news because behaviour like this is the norm now?

My thoughts are was that it was education-based and not with malicious intent. It's a part of history that needs to be explorered and learned from, not buried. This story invites outrage without solutions. I would like to hear your views on it though.

I understand what you are saying with the exploration of history but is that a part of history that you'd like to be explored? Imagine how the black students at that school must feel.

You are right. Thinking about it longer it was a poor forum for this. If this is how it was going to be done it should have been approval from the highest level and debated at a whole school level. I retract my initial comment, and apologize.

If true, the teacher should be fired. In the current political environment, with racism being such a prominent, painful issue, there is no reasonable justification for this.

After reading the article, I feel the sensible route would've been for the teacher to give permission to use the garb during his presentation only, as a means of envoking affect, but doesn't otherwise seem like a necessary element.

Yeah, wearing it outside the presentation seems unnecessary, but that could have been to point. Showing the effect that symbol still has, idk, seems unnecessary.
