The new case definition is more in line with traditional categories. Alternately, sometimes suspected, probable and confirmed are used. It's also normal to stop testing at some point when case volume is high. which I think motivated the previous version allowing clinical conf.
and for all the tweets I get asking about data quality, changes to the case definition are not unexpected with a new disease. as we learn more and as our surveillance needs change, sometimes the case definition needs to change too.
Massaging your data works as long as you have at least a shred of credibility, but at this point how can they expect anyone in the world to trust them on anything ever again? Between this and only confirming cases outside Hubei with a travel history to Hubei, the data is bunk.
Is that true? I saw someone saying that, but if true it means that the whole world is being misleaded....
I personally don't believe that China, WHO, or the CDC are being completely honest about any of this anywhere ..I believe many details concerning this virus and true number of cases are being withheld from the public for a spectrum of reasons ..
I'm not opposed to diagnosis criteria changes but data purity is a big issue. For 4 days Hubei reported difference between PCR & CD showing mortality in tested to be 3.93% & 1.02% among clinically diagnosed. Then they stopped delineating on 2/16 so the data isn't transparent.
