@cmuratori Hey Casey quick question(s) -- Do you work on Handmade hero everyday? Also I'm a beginner C# student... do you recommend coding from scratch to make my dream JRPG? Or take some lessons with Unity?

If your goal is strictly to make a game, especially one with no particularly new technical requirements, it is unlikely that you will want to start from scratch. Coding from scratch is for people who _want_ to make an engine :) Engine development is not game development!

On the other hand, if you are passionate about game _technology_, starting at least some projects from scratch is crucial and a fundamental part of the educational process in my opinion.

As for Handmade Hero, you can see specifically how often I work on it - 100% of the coding is done on stream :) For reference, it is between 4 and 5 hours per week (less than 1/10th the time you would normally spend on a full-time programming project).
