"No taxation without representation" should have been directly codified into the US Constitution, considering how instrumental that concept was to the nation's founding. The US has an estimated 12,000 tax jurisdictions currently. Even complying with one state's per-county tax regime is often more onerous than complying with, say, VAT MOSS. Sales tax it's 100% nuts here.
