"No taxation without representation" should have been directly codified into the US Constitution, considering how instrumental that concept was to the nation's founding. As a person who has had to file VAT MOSS taxes for our Europe sales, which is vastly simpler than what a 50-state sales tax (not to mention county!) scheme would entail, I can all but guarantee it would be the end of direct small business sales, period.
