Right, but it is *possible* for a Unity game to run well, no? Or has their never been a Unity game that ran well enough for you?

That said, it also seems to be rather wishful thinking that Unity games generally run at 60fps even on today's platforms. See, for example http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2016-firewatch-ps4-analysis … to pick one notable recent example...

Does this mean Unity is a bad choice for game development? Of course not! If you are satisfied with the results, then it is fine. But if you care about presentation quality, and don't want to require unreasonably high machine specs for a given experience, it is obviously bad?

They have also ushered in a world where more people can make games than ever before, because the actual development methods and tools are much more user-friendly and accessible.
-
Which is why the market is now flooded with millions of games of mixed quality, which is known to drive consumers to distrust/become disinterested in the market (see Atari crash). So we get some gems we wouldn't have gotten otherwise, but a lot of new issues as well.

eh i don't think people upgrade their machines to play the latest hot unity indie game. i upgraded my GPU last year for DOOM 2016. now, we can talk about the excess of AAA...vs the more tempered graphics of Blizzard and Valve games.
