At the moment, @PUBATTLEGROUNDS has more simultaneous players than all 99 other games on the Steam Top 100 combined... by _half a million_! (2 million for PUBG, 1.5 million for the other 99).
How is PUBG able to do it, though, then? Because they are not a Chinese company, and yet they have the same client on both?

Official releases need a Chinese publisher. DOTA2 and CS:GO are officially published by Perfect World in China, who run their own clients on their own servers with modified versions of the games. Tencent (Riot games owner) won publishing rights for PUBG in China, last month.

Now, Steam exists in a legal grey area in China as many games in its catalog would need to be censored but aren't technically released in the country. Steam can be blocked in china and has been in the past. However, Steam wasn't that popular in China until recently.
