And it's exactly the opposite of "short sighted", I think. The short sighted way would be to remake parts for modern sensibilities. Remastering should merely entail preparing the material for release on new media / platforms.

Its so interesting, that in some ways these oldest classic Adventure games have had several 'remakes' across their existence. From EGA to VGA to being up-scaled and framed for 1080p. My original playing of MI was the VGA version that had all text icons and inventory.
-
The text inventory was actually superior to the graphical one created latter, because it preserved a great visual gag with the Monkey Head key. One who's punch gets lost when you can see the key in advance.

It's interesting that only GF's remake was artistically faithful while Monkey island and DotT art were huge downgrades from the originals
-
Disagree on DotT. I'd call it a lazy tracing - faithful but inelegant. MI special editions were a complete redo, and a travesty.

This doesn’t tell me when the remastered version of Thimbleweed Park is coming out, so I’m feeling pretty disappointed.

I would prefer that the remake of Monkey Island 1 was cartoon like Monkey Island 3.

100% agree as well. However, I felt giddy about the evolution of art playing MM on C64, Indy3 on Amiga and Indy4 in VGA back then.

It is actually really hard to port clever games. Reminds me of the times where
@TheSimpsons were popular on TV and we read in the official Simpsons comic books about the word games the translators didn't get and therefore were lost in the German synchronized versions.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Creating videogames can be an art, just like creating movies can be. And of course, they need to be preserved as they were, so to understand better also the context of their time.
